I was born in Bielsko-Biala, a beautiful city in southern Poland. After graduating from Fifth High School and obtaining a BS in Computer Science from Academy of Computer Science I moved to Cracow, the cultural capital of Poland.
During the course of my MS studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, I received the Erasmus scholarship; as a place to spend one year of my MS studies, I chose the University of Montpellier in France. Upon returning to Cracow, I was offered to conduct research at CERN, the world’s largest particle physics laboratory. The stay at CERN has been particularly exciting, as I was working on a Large Hadron Collider experiment.
Before finishing my MS studies, I started my doctoral studies at the State Scientific and Research Institute of Information Infrastructure in Lviv, Ukraine. Shortly after I graduated from the Jagiellonian University, I managed to propose and defend my candidate of sciences thesis in the field of Mathematical Modeling for the optimization of ships scheduling problem in port.
I then decided to pursue my career in the field of Artificial Intelligence and Multi Agent Systems. To this end, I moved to Los Angeles and started doctoral studies in Computer Science at the University of Southern California under the supervision of professor Milind Tambe. My doctoral thesis focused on planning with continuous resources in agent systems.
The next few years of my career have been truly exciting as I had a chance to conduct cutting-edge AI research at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in New York alongside Murray Campbell (IBM DeepBlue) and Gerry Tesauro (TD-Gammon), the pioneers of the field.
Following my wonderful years as a lead scientist at Google DeepMind I am now a principal scientist at Pasteur Labs & ISI where I conduct research on Artificial General Intelligence towards reshaping the scientific method for the machine age.
